Why should I work with a professional graphic designer?
Now,
the part I am sure you are wondering about. Why do I even need a
graphic designer? How do you find a good graphic designer without
paying thousands and thousands of dollars for his or her services?
Well, to the first question of why. Because if you don’t,
your competition will. Also, because you are not a designer (if
you happen to be a skilled graphic artist with years of computer
knowledge and virtual mastery of all the required programs, then
I apologize – skip this section and move on, otherwise…),
you are a businessperson. You job is to find clients and make money.
A good designer is worth their weight in gold. The average price
is $55.00 to $85.00 per hour and they go as high as firm prices
of $350.00 per hour. Of course, I am not expecting you to pay that

If that price scares
you, and you think that you can do it yourself, keep this in mind.
The computers and software needed to make good marketing material
is very expensive, and the thousands of hours required to master
them is prohibitive. There is a huge difference between professional
graphic software and home graphics programs. The professional programs
make it possible for designers to save to disk and go right to the
print shop for production (the design/printing industry use the
same software). Your home programs (Word, Excel, Publisher, Paint,
Powerpoint, etc.) are meant for simple things like greeting cards,
family newsletters, you know, stuff with clip-art (p.s.- if you
ever catch your designer using clip-art, fire him, the shoot him…
clip-art screams, “UNPROFESSIONAL”). So, remember, your
home programs won’t work for professional printing nor will
they look professional.
Another benefit to using
a designer is they will always take your work to the printer ready
to go. Printers like to print. They don’t like to reformat
and fix mistakes. If they get a job full of errors, they will either
delay your jobs for weeks to fix them (and charge you an arm and
a leg for it) or they will simply print the job with the errors
and you will be stuck with a bunch of really nice scrap paper.
